Moravian-Silesian Region

The Moravian-Silesian Region is one of the higher territorial administrative units of the Czech Republic. It is located in the northeast of the country, with most of its territory lying in Silesia and a smaller part in Moravia. The region has six statutory cities: Ostrava, Frýdek-Místek, Opava, Havířov, Karviná, and Třinec. The regional capital is Ostrava.

The highest mountain range in the region is the Hrubý Jeseník, home to Praděd, the second-highest peak in the Czech Republic, at an altitude of 1,491 meters. Most of the region is drained by the Odra River and its tributaries, which flow into the Baltic Sea.

The region is home to three protected landscape areas and five nature parks. The environment has undergone significant transformation: following the decline of heavy industry and with a focus on ecological projects, air quality has markedly improved, and many natural areas have been revitalized.
