Great Britain–France Thriller Decided in Overtime

The second Group B semifinal between Great Britain and France at the Multifunctional Arena delivered a thrilling contest. Two goals were scored within the opening 41 seconds, one by each side, suggesting a high-scoring affair. However, that was not the case, as France netted the only remaining goal of the first period. Great Britain responded immediately after the break, but that proved to be the only notable moment of the second period. The real drama unfolded in the third. The Brits restored their two-goal advantage, only to squander it as France equalized within 90 seconds. The French side then looked set for victory when Colombin put them ahead with just 46 seconds remaining, but Cheetham responded almost immediately to force overtime. The extra period did not last long, as Tomáš Marcinek scored moments after the opening face-off to seal a hard-fought victory for France and send them into the Group B final.

COACHES´ REACTIONS

Luke Browne (GBR): "We had a slow start again, but then we got better. Unfortunately at the end we played with the ball but France scored good goals. When I compare it with the match in the group stage - we've lost a couple of guys on the way and we looked a little bit legged today. On the other hand - we should give full credit to France, because they were terrific today. Now we have to regroup and then try to fight for bronze tomorrow."

Eric Golay (FRA): "We knew it's going to be very tough match, but we showed that our team has a big character. We didn't stress about the score, because we knew that we were going to be able to come back and win. Taking into account the match in the group stage - today we played better defensively, we tried to shoot more and put more pressure on the opponent. We played as one time and that was the key."
