Second Period Masterclass Earns India Quarterfinal Place

The matchup between the unbeaten teams of Group B was played in front of an excellent crowd. A solidly filled arena witnessed India’s strong start to the first period, highlighted by a goal from Taj Grewal. The remainder of the opening period then featured numerous skirmishes. India secured its victory in the second period, which it completely dominated offensively, entering the final period of the game with a 5–2 lead. A two-goal effort from Ethan Daintith was not enough for Britain as, in the third period, India sealed the victory with two more goals. A quarterfinal spot will be on the line when Great Britain takes on France on Wednesday.

Karny Dhillon (IND): „It was a great game between two teams that were battling for top spot. It was going to be a fight right till the end. We got into penalty trouble and our emotions were high. They had a good game plan and played how they wanted against a skilled team. I'm proud of the guys for battling through everything. It was a great game with a great finish.“

Luke Browne (GBR): „It was a tough game for us. We tried to play some nice smart hockey, sometimes it doesn't come off, but India just capitalized on all our mistakes at the back. India had a game plan, they stuck to it, and it worked. Fans were absolutely fantastic. It's a pleasure to have people there to support us and support India, it was incredible to see.“
