USA Claims First Win of the Tournament, Defeating Finland

After opening the tournament with two defeats and scoring just one goal in those games, Team USA finally found its rhythm against Finland. The Americans lived up to their role as favourites from the opening minutes and took a 2–0 lead into the first intermission. They remained in control throughout the rest of the game, allowing Finland very few scoring chances and adding six more goals. Seven different players found the scoresheet among USA’s eigth goals, with Nick Carter scoring twice. The victory gives the United States its first win of the tournament, while Finland remains pointless and drops to the bottom of the standings.

Eddie Costa (USA): "I think the players performed with a lot more confidence today and finally found their rhythm. One of the biggest factors was staying disciplined and out of the penalty box. That allowed us to show our offensive strengths and play our game. The first two matches were mainly about adjusting to the tournament and finding our stride. Today's win gives us confidence and shows what we're capable of when we play the right way. Against Switzerland, we'll need to bring the same intensity, work hard from the opening whistle and stay disciplined once again. They're a strong team and we know they'll provide a very tough challenge."
