Great Britain Defeats Austria After Dominant Third Period, Dearing Nets Two

We did not have to wait long for the opening goal of the game, as Dearing put Great Britain ahead at 2:28. However, Thaler leveled the score three minutes later. The scoring pace then slowed down, and the fans had to wait until the second period for more action, with four goals being scored in the middle frame. As a result, the teams were tied 3–3 heading into the final period. Great Britain came out flying in the third period and quickly built a two-goal lead. The British side added one more goal late on to seal a 6–3 victory.

Ján Ďurický (AUT): "Today's match was a great learning experience for our team. It was our first game back, so it was an important test against a quality opponent. Scoring a goal gave the team confidence and showed the players that they are capable of competing against strong opponents.Most importantly, we came through the match without any injuries and gained valuable experience. We will use what we learned today in the upcoming games by analyzing our performance, focusing on the things we do well, studying our opponents, and preparing our game plan accordingly."

Luke Browne (GBR): "I think our fitness was ultimately the deciding factor in this game. We did not start well and allowed Austria to dictate the pace early on. They played a very strong game, showing speed, physicality, and excellent organization throughout much of the match. As the game progressed, however, we grew into it, gained more control, and started creating more scoring opportunities. Our power play was once again a key factor. It has been performing well recently and helped us capitalize on important moments during the game. At the same time, the match showed us that there is still room for improvement. We have yet to put together a complete performance over all three periods, and we know we need to be more consistent throughout the game. We will take valuable lessons from this win and look to deliver an even stronger performance in our next match."
