Heavyweight Clash Goes Czechia’s Way! Two from Zvonek Leads Hosts to Victory

The hosts, Czechia, got off to the better start in a rematch of the most recent final. Just eight seconds into the game, Kucharčík caught Canada off guard. The defending champions responded in the 5th minute when the determined Jarred White scored from close range in front of the net. Canada then had two power-play opportunities for the remainder of the period, but goaltender Mokry delivered an outstanding performance. The Czechs also made a fantastic start to the second period. After just 27 seconds, Zvonek restored their lead. The same player then found the net again with a spinning shot from in front of the goal. Canada made the game interesting again late in the second period when Laurencelle knocked a rebound out of the air and into the net. Canada came out actively in the third period and created several chances to equalize on the power play, but goaltender Mokry turned them aside. Instead, it was the Czechs who scored on the power play. Kubíček blasted a slap shot from the blue line into the top corner of the net. Bílý also beat the Canadian goaltender on the power play. Laurencelle's goal to cut the deficit came too late. The hosts sealed the victory with a shot into the empty net.

Jason Cormier (CAN): "The opponent played a very strong game, starting with high intensity and quickly building an early lead, which gave them momentum. The key moments were the early goal at the beginning of the game and another quick strike at the start of the second period, which shaped the outcome. Their power play was also decisive, as they converted their chances while we failed to capitalize on ours. Although we tried to stay in the game, those moments made the difference. However, the team mindset is to review everything in the room and then immediately focus on the next game, so we will learn from this loss, move on, and be ready for the next match in the tournament."

Milan Jelen (CZE): "It was a very challenging game against a strong opponent. We came into the match with a clear game plan, and I am pleased that we were able to stick to it for most of the game. Our discipline and commitment to the system were, in my opinion, the main reasons why we were able to come away with the win. A key factor was our penalty killing. We put ourselves under pressure at times through a few technical mistakes, which are areas we still need to improve. However, I was pleased with our five-on-five play, where we stayed committed to our structure and managed the game effectively. The early goal was part of our preparation and helped us establish momentum right from the start. At the same time, we know this is only one step in a much longer journey. Every game is part of the process, and our focus now shifts entirely to the next opponent as we continue moving forward with confidence and humility."
