India pulls away from Austria for 7–2 victory

The third match of Saturday’s schedule began with the first Austrian goal, scored by Kahlhammer. However, India stepped up towards the end of the period and turned the game around with two goals of their own. In the middle 15-minute period, coach Dhillon’s team finally broke the red-and-white resistance, surged to a 6–2 lead, and comfortably maintained their advantage throughout the final period, adding one more goal for a 7–2 win. The Asian team's victory was directed by Indian forward Arjun Atwal with a goal and two assists.

COACHES´ REACTIONS

Karny Dhillon (IND): "In the beginning we had some nerves on, most of these guys were playing together for the first time and we also have to take into account the long flights we've had. But overall, I think we executed our game plan very well. Everybody played hard and we got a positive outcome, but a lot to work on and a lot to build on as well."

Ján Ďurický (AUT): "From the beginning I told the guys not to look at the score and to mainly enjoy the game. We didn’t have any major expectations going into the match; after all, Austria is at the World Championship for the first time in 15 years. India outplayed us today in terms of speed — the movement of the ball from side to side, switching positions — these are things the opponent handled very well and essentially showed how important speed is in today’s hockey. Now after the match we will rest together, have a good lunch, analyse our mistakes, and hopefully learn from them by tomorrow.”
