James Mentis (USA): "We played a good game, but we just gotta be a little bit more disciplined. You can't give power plays to the two-time defending champions; they scored four power play goals today. The turning point was probably their third goal, which came from a bad penalty and put us down by two. On the bright side, we have a lot of young guys playing in their first World Championships. Getting this kind of experience is the best thing for them. Tomorrow, we’ll do some film work, study what went wrong, and prepare for the next game."

James Cormier (CAN): "It was a good start for us. Coming together with a new group is always tough at first, but after withstanding some early pressure from the US, we rebounded very well. Our preparation was key today. The players know the opponent well, which gave them extra motivation to execute our game plan. We knew they had a younger team and we managed to take advantage of that. Tomorrow we face a very strong, outstanding Czech team. We'll need to be at our best, but the atmosphere here is wonderful and the rink is sensational, so it's going to be great."
